The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Aux Brûlées 1er Cru has a slightly "worked" bouquet. Savory aromas infuse its dark berry fruit, cola and allspice. Maybe a little animally? The palate is medium-bodied with meat juices on the entry. Again, this is very savory in style and not able to convey the clarity of its peers. As a result, I wonder about the longevity of this Vosne-Romanée. What a perplexing showing from a wine that shone from barrel. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Aux Brûlées 1er Cru was due to be racked a month after my visit, which is why the nose was tighter and more backward than the le Clos d’Eugénie. With aeration, there are fleeting glimpses of blueberry and cassis. The palate is medium-bodied with chalky tannins and fresh black fruit laced with graphite and minerals. A "vertical" Aux Brûlées brimming with tension on a peppery finish that is molded by the 60% whole bunch. Excellent, though it will need time.
