Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2013 Clos de Sarpe has a very pretty, floral-laced nose of roses and violets with a core of red and black cherry preserves plus notes of mulberries, spice box and fragrant soil. Full-bodied and packed with generous red and black fruit layers, it has a firm frame of grainy tannins and a long, refreshing finish. Only 2,000 bottles were produced because of the strict selection.

Almost New World. High-toned and extracted. Seems dry and stripped of fruit.

Few wines show this much color in 2013. The blend of fruit, herbs, tannins, spice and stone is slowly coming together. There may be too much tannin for the fruit here, but time will tell.
