Score 89-91/100 · Drink 2005-2012, Pierre Rovani, Jun 2003

Nuts, pears, and white chocolate aromas make up the nose of the 2001 Montrachet. Medium-bodied, broad, and pure, it displays outstanding depth to its lemon-laden mineral-flavored personality. It boasts a good deal of complexity as well as a long, flavorful finish. Drink it between 2005 and 2012. Importer: Clicquot, Inc., New York, NY; tel. (212) 888-7575

Knockout nose melds pit fruits, iodine, wet stone, spices and mint. Thick and dense but distinctly less sweet and more austere today than the Cabotte. Offers a rare combination of sheer weight of material and powerful mineral cut. This shows the wet stone quality I normally associate with Chevalier-Montrachet. Youthfully aggressive, slow-mounting finish suggests that this wine will need six to eight years of patience.
