Spicy red and black fruits, tobacco, spice, and loamy earth notes emerge from the 2021 Château Lestage Simon, a medium-bodied, straight, focused, firmer 2021 that has good depth of fruit and solid length on the finish. It's enjoyable, balanced, and will keep for at least a decade.

The 2021 Lestage Simon has a light bouquet with clean red berry fruit, touches of rose petal and sage. The palate is medium-bodied with a bitter entry and fine acidity, but it attenuates severely toward the finish and leaves you feeling shortchanged. This is below my expectations from barrel. Tasted on two occasions.

The 2021 Lestage Simon is a powerful, burly Haut-Médoc. It shows very good depth in its flavors. That intensity has resulted in tannins that are equally amplified. Black cherry, gravel, licorice, leather and spice add to an impression of brooding richness. There's a lot to like about the 2021, but it's also hard to fully look past the muscular tannins. In the right food context, however, the 2021 will be quite enjoyable.
