The 2020 Grand Enclos du Château de Cérons is a solid, easygoing effort. Floral and spice notes in the bouquet are attractive, but ultimately the 2020 is a bit light on the mid-palate and offers only modest depth. On the plus side, there are no hard edges or awkward contours. Dark raspberry, mocha and spice linger on the taut, nervy finish.

40–50% Cabernet Sauvignon, plus Merlot.  Fermented in thermoregulated truncated-cone-shaped stainless-steel vats with long vatting periods, then aged in barrels, with 30–50% new wood, for 12–14 months.  Cask sample.  Deep crimson. Intense and slightly toasty black fruit. Highly concentrated cassis, cedar and capsicum flavours, rich but with a herbal/capsicum streak. Tannins are deep but super-smooth and on the palate there’s both cassis and blackcurrant leaf. Ripe but fresh and well balanced in a concentrated style, pure-fruited and generous but not heavy. I enjoyed this even more when it was cooler than room temperature. (JH)
