The 2017 Barolo Massara is resinous with notes of wet asphalt, balsamic herbs, and strawberry preserve. Medium-bodied, it has ripe tannins with notes of dark minerals, black raspberry, and tea leaves. It is well-balanced with both floral and savory appeal to drink 2024-2034.

The 2017 Barolo Massara is a very pretty wine from Castello di Verduno. Sweet floral notes, red-toned fruit and mid-weight structure give the 2017 a brighter profile and a more gracious feel relative to the darker 2016. This mid-weight, translucent Barolo has plenty to offer. I would give it a few years in bottle.

Verduno. Youthful, mid ruby. Perfumed and almost a little heady on the nose. Sour cherry and raspberry with a peppery edge. Concentrated red-fruit palate which has a certain coolness to it. Lots of juice and gripping tannins on the finish. Long, tannic and a little austere for now, but this needs much more time to really unfold. (WS)
