Medium ruby-purple, the 2019 Estate Pinot Noir Pomarium opens slowly to rhubarb, blueberry preserves and blood orange with tones of licorice, dried violet and conifer, gaining more nuance as it spends time in the glass. The medium-bodied palate is powerful and expansive, with loads of powdery tannins, seamless acidity and layer after layer of spicy fruits, finishing with great length and intense flavors. It’s a powerful but finessed wine that deserves another 3-5 years in bottle.

The 2019 Pinot Noir Estate Pomarium is the most powerful and inward wine in the range. It is another wine that is going to need time to be at its best, as it is very nervy and tightly wound today. Even so, it clearly has plenty of mid-palate depth. Crushed rocks, gravel, lavender, mint and dried herbs all run through the Pomarium. Deceptive in its mid-weight structure, the 2019 has plenty to give, for those who can wait.
