The 2020 Asterisk certainly does well in the vintage, with a classic Sloan profile in its ripe red and black fruit as well as tobacco, gravelly earth, and chocolaty nuances. It's rich, medium to full-bodied, has quality yet grainy tannins, and a great finish. Mostly Merlot with 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, it spent 26 months in new barrels.

The 2020 Asterisk is a very pretty wine. It is a bit lighter in texture and structure than most years, but that is a signature of the 2020 vintage. Juicy dark cherry, chocolate, plum, leather, licorice and menthol are nicely pushed forward in this soft, easygoing wine from Sloan. This blend of 57% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc is impeccably balanced.
