Score 87/100 · Drink 2000-2008, Robert Parker, Aug 2000

Rich, dense, and darkly colored, the 1997 Mormoreto is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. It reveals weedy notes intermixed with red and black currant fruit and toasty oak. Austere and medium weight, with astringent tannin in the moderately-endowed finish, it can be drunk over the next 7-8 years. Importer: Paterno Imports, Lake Bluff, IL; tel. (847) 604-8900

Dark ruby-garnet. Blackcurrant, game and a whiff of cabernet franc herbaceousness on the open, fragrant nose; comes across as a bit green at the moment. Very Bordeaux-like in flavor and style; medium-bodied, elegant in texture, and sweeter and spicier than on the nose. But some slightly tough tannins and finishing astringency suggest that the grapes were picked a bit too early.
