Score 95/100 · Drink 2016-2050, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Oct 2016

Tasted at the Disznóko vertical in London, the 2006 Tokaji Aszu 5 Puttonyos is a blend of 55% Furmint, 35% Zéta and 10% Hárslevelu (Aszu grapes) with 140 grams per liter of residual sugar. It has a slightly deeper color than the 2007 at the moment. The bouquet is very seductive, very pure with orange blossom, quince and marmalade scents, then underneath something a little earthy. The palate is very well balanced with crisp acidity, lively and very harmonious, a classic Tokaji full of spice and edginess, tangy and energetic on the long finish. This is a superb Tokaji, just beginning to show some secondary characteristics and destined for long-term ageing. Tasted September 2016.

Aszú grapes 55% Furmint, 35% Zéta, 10% Hárslevel ű, macerated in base wine and must of Furmint, Hárslevel ű and Zéta. Early ripening followed by an Indian summer, with warm sunny days and cool nights during harvest. Mix of botrytis and shrivelling. RS 140 g/l, TA 9.3 g/l. Sharp and edgy with lots of spice and dried fruit character. For the future. Massive acidity and prune-like character. Rather painful to taste now. (JR)
