Score 92/100 · Robert Parker, Dec 2003

The 2001 Pinot Noir Rochioli Riverblock Vineyard (521 cases) is a spectacular effort. A striking nose of crushed rocks is intertwined with rose petals, as well as sweet black cherry, raspberry, and blueberry fruit. This seamless, rich, full-bodied wine was rocking the day I tasted it. Medium to full-bodied and well-delineated with crisp acids as well as sweet tannin that provides structure to its weighty, rich feel. All things considered, 2001 and 2002 are the finest back-to-back vintages I have tasted from Williams-Selyem. Tel. (707) 433-6425; Fax (707) 433-6546

Good deep ruby-red. Subdued nose nonetheless hints at an exotic ripeness, with notes of cola, sassafras and tar to go with the dark fruits. Fat and rich but a bit youthfully sullen, and not yet showing the clarity of the Allen. Very ripe flavors of blackberry, plum and smoke. Big, oaky finish features ripe tannins and excellent length.
