A brilliant effort, the 2004 Grenache The Derelict Vineyard represents a Grenache on steroids. Its deep ruby/purple-tinged color is accompanied by a sweet kiss of kirsch liqueur intermixed with licorice, pepper, and a touch of lavender. Full-bodied with superb concentration, a beautiful, multilayered texture, sweet tannin, low acidity, and a long, supple finish, it should provide plenty of pleasure over the next 7-8 years. Deep red. Explosive bouquet of rich, deep blackberry and cassis, musky herbs, anise and mocha. A shapely wine, with a plush, rounded texture and sweet, penetrating wild berry and herb flavors that call to mind a top-notch Chateauneuf du Pape. Finishes on a sweet note of boysenberry, with gentle, well-knit tannins.
