Bright magenta. Vibrant, mineral-accented red and blue fruits, baking spices and pungent flowers on the perfumed nose. This juicy, energetic midweight offers appealingly sweet, spice-laced raspberry and boysenberry flavors that slowly deepen as the wine opens up. Shows very good clarity and solid thrust on the sweet, blue-fruit-driven finish, which is given shape by smooth, even tannins.

Raspberry jam and sweet spice – very well defined. Textbook Grenache with excellent sweetness of fruit. The tannins are a little gruff, but far from intrusive. (RH)

Aromas of dark berries, blackberries and licorice follow through to a full body, very soft and silky tannins and a flavorful finish. Hints of jam. Drink now. Screw cap.

The 2016 The Custodian Grenache is sourced from about 40 growers around McLaren Vale. Ripe, full-bodied yet tight and constrained, it offers dusty, dark-fruit aromas and flavors of mulberries and plums. Give it another year in bottle to loosen up a bit.
