Score 91/100 · Drink 2013-2022, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Dec 2010

The 2005 Barolo Fossati is the darkest and richest of these Baroli, which is a bit surprising given the lighter nature of the vintage. The Fossati shows quite a bit of juiciness in its dark raspberries, flowers and sweet French oak. All of the elements come together beautifully in this expressive, fruit-driven Barolo. The finish remains vibrant and plump through to the close.

The estate seems to be working with high-quality fruit, even if today the wines lack that visceral thrill that might elevate them to another level. Hopefully that will come with time.
