Bright, deep red. Pretty if subdued aromas of cherry and raspberry. Lush and sweet, with enticing, clean red fruit flavors; in this wine's normally voluptuous style. Not the last word in complexity but offers terrific fruit and supple texture. Finishes with broad, building tannins. I'd enjoy this wine over the next year or two for its youthful fruit.

The 2004 Pinot Noir Zio Tony Ranch shows plenty of raspberry, soy, and fig notes along with hints of pomegranate and cherry. This spicy, full-bodied Pinot reveals nicely integrated oak, a savory, expansive palate, and a heady finish. This wine had just been bottled when I tasted it, so I suspect my ratings might be somewhat conservative. Before readers inundate the office with questions, the Martinellis were not happy with the Syrah vineyards in 2004 and did not make any wines. (Release date 3/06) Tel. Martinelli

Martinelli is a Sonoma benchmark for vineyard-designate bottlings—wines built to highlight how strongly a single site can shape Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, and Zinfandel. Across the range, the focus stays consistent: small-production bottlings that feel distinctly tied to where they’re grown.
