Aromas of lime, green orchard fruit and some exotic top notes of musk melon, framed by toasty new oak, introduce the 2016 Chassagne-Montrachet Village Blanc, a medium to full-bodied, tangy wine with good concentration and depth. I suspect it will become more unctuous and exotic with bottle age.

Pale straw. Spicy oak on the nose. Very confident and rewarding with an undertow of ripe, interesting fruit as well as precision. Loved this! But oakophobes may wish to steer clear. (JR)

Bottled. Inviting lightly spiced citrus, definite oak. Creamy, mealy and fresh with good fruit depth and long, stony, almost peppery aftertaste – though that peppery character is more texture than flavour. (JH)
