Winemaker notes: A good year, but cooler than average with very little Laurel Glen made. Rigorous selection of lots in the cellar… lots of vine desiccation, very selective picking. Best lots are thick and delicious. Average harvest 24.6 Brix. Black garnet core with ruby edges. Star bright. Aromatics of spiced black plum and creamy cassis with light back notes of fresh, resinous herbs. A dark, brooding palate of spiced black fruits, fresh resinous herbs, and ferric earthy notes. Nice amplitude with subtlety and good depth of character. There is a good overall harmony of flavour presence, tannin and mouth-watering acidity as well, which all together offer good palate stimulation and lots of length. Nice finesse while also a bit subdued. A pleasant, subtle, delicious wine. (ECB)

Good bright ruby-red. Black cherry, cassis, licorice and minerals on the nose, with hints of band-aid and mint. A bit riper than the Counterpoint, but still a tad tart, with the blackcurrant and mint flavors firmed by slightly spiky acidity. Here the tannins are broader and sweeter than those of the Counterpoint. Patrick Campbell considers 2003 a cooler than average vintage and told me he did a lot of "editing" to come up with this flagship bottling. This may well merit a higher score with bottle aging.
