Dark, glistening ruby. Powerful cherry and dark berry qualities on the powerfully scented nose, which are complemented by hints of candied flowers, licorice and exotic spices. Displays highly energetic, palate-staining black raspberry, bitter cherry and spicecake flavors that are supported by a spine of juicy acidity. Turns sweeter on the gently tannic finish, which hangs on with impressive tenacity and resonating florality.

This was a very creditable performance from the 2016 Morgon Côte du Py, a medium to full-bodied, concentrated wine with tangy acids and an attractive bouquet of blackberries, wild berries and cracked black pepper. Though affected, yields were less impacted by hail in Morgon than in Moulin-à-Vent, and the wine is a bit more classic in profile as a result.
Bottled. Mid to deep crimson. Sweeter fruited than the three Ch des Jacques Moulin-à-Vents just tasted, more red cherry. Plus some oak sweetness of spice. Chewy but smooth tannins. Impressive depth of fruit that shines now even with the oak presence. Fresh and long. (JH)
