The 2016 Barbera d'Alba Aves is superb. Rich, dense and concentrated, the 2016 also has more than enough structure to balance the wine's more overt leanings. A rush of red cherry jam, blood orange, mint, dried flowers and menthol builds into the potent, super-rich finish. What a gorgeous wine this is.

Fruit for the 2016 Barbera d'Alba Aves comes from the townships of Verduno and Roddi. Unlike the base Barbera d'Alba, the Aves expression is aged in tonneaux. You get a wider and heavier fruit footprint here, thanks to the wine's naturally enriched concentration. The wine displays generous volume and texture, and it feels velvety soft on the palate. Morello cherry and dried blackberry are backed by a touch of ripe fruit sweetness.
