Much more low key on the nose but very correct. Fine-grained tannins. This should be good for the long term but the finish is very dry for the moment. (JR)

The 2005 Beaune Greves Vieilles Vignes evinces bright cherry, wood smoke and chalk dust. Densely meaty, savory and stony on the palate, with rather obvious tannins and slight woodiness (two of three barrels are new), it certainly displays good length, and may just need more time to properly assess. Good deep red. Aromas of redcurrant, iron, tobacco and spicy oak. Sweet, high-toned and tangy, with red cherry and raspberry flavors lifted by minerality. A bit dry on the back, though. Another sample from a once-used barrel was similarly sweet in the middle but a bit dry on the finish.
