Opaque ruby. Heady, intensely perfumed bouquet displays cherry-cola, dark berries, olive and violet, along with a smoky overtone. Deeply pitched and sappy but energetic, offering pungent cherry and cassis flavors lifted by zesty acidity. A note of boysenberry comes up on the finish, which leaves notes of mint and cracked pepper behind. For a rich wine this shows very good focus and vivacity.

A classic Barossa Shiraz, as well as a solid value, the 2008 Schild Estate Shiraz Barossa Valley delivers loads of sweet blackberry and raspberry styled fruits that are intermixed with notions of tar, mint, brambly underbrush, and touches of roasted meat on the nose. While possessing a subtle sweetness to the aromas, this also has solid complexity, as well as a fresh, focused profile. Medium to full bodied on the palate, with solid texture, good acidity, and a long finish, this outstanding wine should have a solid decade of prime drinking.

The 2008 Shiraz gives a deep garnet color and intense notes of very ripe bramble fruits, creme de cassis and kirsch over licorice and chocolate. The palate is appealing though a little over-ripe and lacking finesse with medium level soft tannins and high acid, finishing medium-long. Drink it now through 2013. USA importer unknown.
