Score 88-90/100 · Drink 2000-2005, Robert Parker, Jan 2000

The 1998 Pinot Noir Estate is essentially a cuvee culled from the single vineyard wines and from the youngest vines of the Rochioli estate. It is a beautiful, strawberry/cherry-scented wine with a dark ruby color, lively, vibrant fruit, medium to full body, excellent concentration , sweet tannin, and enough acidity to provide delineation. It could easily pass for a premier cru Beaune. Drink it over the next 4-5 years. The best chance of obtaining any of these wines is to get on the winery’s mailing list, or at least on the waiting list to get on the mailing list. Tel. (707) 433-2305; Fax (707) 433-2358.

Bright, full red. Bright, slightly floral aromas of cherry, raspberry, white pepper and cocoa powder. Not especially sweet or fleshy but ripe, juicy and firm. Finishes with slightly dry but light tannins and enticing freshness. Should make a very good food wine, while a couple of the vineyard-designated '97s seems rather overwhelmingly oaky and thus harder to use at the table.
