Score 90/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jul 2005

(42% syrah, 37% grenache and 21% mourvedre; bottled a week prior to my visit) Deep red-ruby. Deeper, wilder aromas of black cherry liqueur, raspberry, gunflint and meat; dominated today by the syrah component. Big, rich and creamy, with a silkytexture and strong cherry/raspberry fruit. Has the richness to support its elevated alcohol. Finishes with building tannins and excellent persistence.

A creative melange of 42% Syrah, 37% Grenache, and 21% Mourvedre, the superb 2003 Rising Tides possesses a deep ruby/purple color, a sweet, ripe nose of black raspberries, kirsch, licorice, and subtle oak, high tannin, medium to full body, and beautiful purity. It requires another 1-2 years of bottle age, and should last for a decade. As I have written over the last several years, Linne Calodo is a name to take seriously as it represents a reference point for what can be achieved in California’s Central Coast. Tel. (805) 227-0797
