Loads of dried dark fruits, flowers, and sandalwood on the nose. Hints of fruit tea aromas develop in the glass. Full bodied, with lots of fruit, but slightly lacking in tannin backbone. Pretty and juicy. Drink now. 14+22+22+32. Find the wine

The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate (5,800 cases of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon) has closed down since last year, but with additional time, it should be an impressive effort. A beautiful inky/ruby/purple color is followed by concentrated creme de cassis fruit intermixed with graphite, charcoal, and spicy new oak notes. This medium to full-bodied, long, structured, muscular Cabernet needs 2-3 years of cellaring, and should drink well for two decades. These are consistently brilliant wines thanks to the efforts of winemaker Tony Biagia. The 2007 offerings reflect what a great site this 40-acre vineyard planted in the tenderloin of Oakville truly is. Older readers may remember the superb Villa Mt. Eden Cabernet Sauvignons made by Nils Venge (also the consulting winemaker at Plumpjack) in the mid and late seventies, wines that are still profound today. Tel. (707) 945-1220; Fax (707) 944-0744
