Score 87/100 · Drink 2001-2015, Robert Parker, Dec 1998

Aged in 100% new oak, the 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon is an elegant, stylish, black currant-scented wine with good flavor and richness, medium body, and an attractive spiciness. Offering black fruits and plenty of pain grille, it is a good effort. Anticipated maturity: 2001-2015. In 1996, there was no Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. As the winery explained, all the grapes came in at the same time and were equally fine, so nothing needed to be culled out. The goal of this winery, which sits on the premises of the former Villa Mt. Eden, is to gradually build its production to 10,000 cases. Production in 1998 is projected to be about 7,500 cases. The principal wine is Cabernet Sauvignon, but there is also Chardonnay and a small quantity of so-so Sangiovese. The wines are made by Nils Venge, who is located down the street. Tel.
