The 2003 Cuvee Moriah, which is a blend of 69% Grenache, 18% Syrah, and small quantities of Mourvedre, Counoise, and Roussanne, was aged in both larger pungeons and smaller barrels. A dark plum/purple color is followed by scents of kirsch liqueur, raspberries, Provencal herbs, and lavender. Rich, ripe, and full-bodied, it is a luscious, heady red that recalls a top-notch Chateauneuf du Pape from the Rhone Valley. It tips the scales at 16.4% alcohol. Drink it over the next 4-5 years. (a blend of 69% grenache, 18% syrah, 9% mourvedre, 3% counoise and 1% roussanne; 16.2% alcohol) Good ruby-red. Aromas of black fruits, licorice and spices, lifted by a floral element; shows a distinct grenache dried-fruit character. Pure flavors of black fruits, licorice and pepper. Comes across as almost del icate for a wine with 16% alcohol. Mahle added some syrah to bring down the alcohol of the grenache, which fermented dry to 17.5%!
