Score 94/100 · Drink 2017-2037, Robert Parker, Oct 2013

The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate (75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc and a dollop of Petit Verdot) reveals great fruit, but it is more structured, tannic and reserved than the 2009, no doubt because it is a year younger. It reveals lots of graphite, forest floor, black currants, blueberries and the tell-tale smell of violets that comes from the Spring Mountain AVA. Give it 4-5 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 20+ years. Despite the high quality wines emerging from Juslyn, this estate remains under most consumers’ radar. Proprietors Carolyn and Perry Butler produce mostly estate-bottled wines from their vineyard holdings. The recently released 2009s are both sensational wines. Both 2011s, which are still in barrel, are lighter-styled wines. The 2012s ratchet up things considerably as they do at most wineries when comparing them to the 2011s. Tel. (707) 265-1804

The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon is another wine that vividly captures the essence of the year. Expressive, floral aromatics meld into a layered core of fruit as this large-scaled, structured Cabernet Sauvignon opens up in the glass. There is an implosive, mineral-drenched quality to the 2010 that is a wonder to behold. Hints of mocha, spice, chocolate and menthol add breadth on the expressive, intensely saline finish. I can't wait to taste the 2010 in another year, once it has had a chance to come together even more fully. The 2010 is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot.
