Score 92/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2006

(15.9% alcohol; includes 5% syrah) Saturated ruby-red. Expressive nose offers kirsch, licorice and smoked meat. Large-scaled and wild, with slightly reduced flavors of black fruits and game. Not especially complex but highly concentrated and compellingly sweet. A saline character contributes to the impression of chewiness. Finishes with sweet, broad, palate-saturating tannins and impressive length. An outstanding petite sirah bottling which Les Behrens describes as "like motor oil."

A blend of 95% Petite Sirah and 5% Syrah, the fabulous 2004 Petite Sirah possesses a black/purple color, great intensity, and enormous concentration and depth. This cuvee requires another 3-4 years of cellaring, and should keep for 20-25 years. Tel. 707-963-1774; Fax 707-963-8206
