Very pale color. Quite backward on the nose, hinting at lime blossom, pear, nuts and stone. Juicy and tightly wound, atypically pristine for the vintage. Very young, dry and rich, with lovely purity of flavor and floral lift. Opens out nicely toward the back and mounts slowly on the aftertaste. I would never have picked this blind as coming from the 2003 vintage. Much more impressive from bottle than a sample I tasted last spring. Hervet compared this wine to the '47, and told me he bottled a lot of magnums.

Sporting an aromatic profile reminiscent of a tarte tatin (upside down caramelized apple pie) that was grilled over oak, the effort 2003 Meursault Genevrieres (domaine-white) displays scents of lees. A forward, light to medium-bodied, satin-textured, it is fleshy and expressive. Drink it over the next 2-3 years.

Herbal, discreet nose. Not the most expressive bottle. Obviously still quite taut. (JR)
