The 2018 Pinot Noir Savoy is a classic Anderson Valley Pinot that offers the warm embrace so typical of Anderson Valley Pinots. Succulent red cherry fruit, spice, rose petal and blood orange meld together effortlessly. Open-knit and racy, with soft curves, the Savoy has a ton to offer. Best of all, it is already quite inviting.

The 2018 Pinot Noir Savoy is pliant, creamy and wonderfully inviting, as wines from this Anderson Valley site tend to be. Super-ripe dark cherry, plum, mint, spice, leather and cedar all meld together in a succulent Pinot that will drink well right out of the gate. The 18% whole clusters are not especially evident. I suppose the Savoy doesn't quite have the complexity or layers of the very best wines in this range, but it sure is delicious.

Organically farmed Savoy vineyard at an elevation of 90 m with some gravel deposits. 30-year-old vines that have supplied Radio Coteau since 2002. 18% whole cluster. Minimal additions. Quite a deep crimson. There is something on the nose that recalls the FEL wine that did not show so well. Pretty firm with quite a bit of tannin. Not the most delicate example but an earnest effort – with a hint of alcohol and sweetness on the end. (JR)
