The 1997 Chardonnay Unfiltered Estate (3,300 cases) is among the better buys in California Chardonnay. An excellent wine, the attractive steely, lemon/lime-like aromatics resemble a high-class Chablis. In the mouth, there is more weight, ripeness, and concentration, with intriguing pear/white peach fruit flavors. This powerful Chardonnay exceeds 14% alcohol, but it possesses uncanny elegance. Tel. Pale yellow-gold color. Crisp aromas of citrus skin and mint, with low tones of roasted nuts, butterscotch and marzipan. Rich, layered and firm in the mouth; hints at ripe apricot. Finishes with very good persistence.
