Score 92/100 · Drink 2014-2021, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Dec 2014

The 2011 Heavyweight presents a distinctly more ferrous expression of Cabernet Sauvignon. Red cherries, raspberries, mint, sweet tobacco and cinnamon are all nicely layered in the glass. Over time, the 2011 becomes more floral, lifted and aromatically expressive. This is another gorgeous 2011 from Behrens. The Heavyweight is a Cabernet Sauvignon/Petit Verdot blend made from an assortment of vineyards.

(15.1% alcohol; an 83/17 blend of cabernet sauvignon and petit verdot from Pritchard Hill): Bright medium ruby. Cassis, violet and dark chocolate on the nose. Fat, sweet and plush but with very good vinosity giving shape to the flavors of black raspberry and black cherry. This big and slightly chunky wine could use a bit more definition but finishes with solid tannic grip and avoids coming off as dry. This may be better once it loses some of its baby fat.
