My least favorite offering here, the 2002 Pinot Noir Vista Verde is lean and austere, with an herbal, earthy, underbrush character dominating its personality. Drink it over the next 3-4 years. Tel. (707) 433-6425; Fax (707) 433-6546

Medium red-ruby. Aromas of dark berries, licorice, espresso and oak. Penetrating if somewhat one-dimensional flavors of berries and oak. Not as sweet or fat as pinot from the Russian River Valley but seems less herbal than past vintages of this bottling. Still, this could use a more pliant texture.

Williams Selyem

Williams Selyem is an iconic Russian River Valley winery best known for its Pinot Noir. Producing restrained yet classically Californian expressions of the heartbreak grape (as well as a host of other wines), the property has gone from pioneer to one of the region’s standard-bearers.
