Score 96/100 · Drink 2019-2027, Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, Wine Advocate, Oct 2018

Bottled at the end of January in 2018 after aging for 16 months in 70% new French oak, the 2016 Chardonnay True Course leaps from the glass with bold notions of candied ginger, allspice and honeycomb with a core of ripe pears, warm peaches and lemon curd plus a waft of croissant. The palate is full-bodied with an opulent oiliness to the texture and tons of spice-laced fruit plus a racy line, finishing with epic length. 118 cases produced.

Getting a few expletives in the notes, the 2016 Chardonnay True Course is a heavenly Chardonnay that's sourced from the Rued, Ritchie, and Sebastopol Vineyards in Sonoma County. Caramelized orchard fruits, honeysuckle, orange marmalade, and a honeyed minerality all soar from the glass of this opulent, rich, textured effort that hits the palate with full-bodied richness, yet never seems heavy or cumbersome in the least. Possessing terrific acidity, a concentrated, layered mid-palate, and an undeniable minerality, this beauty will be better with a year in bottle and keep for 10-15 years. These brilliant wines from Chateau Boswell are made by renowned winemaker/consultant Philippe Melka, with assistants from Allison Nunnikhoven. I found all f the wines to have classic, balanced, age-worthy profiles, and they’re some of the gems in this report.
