The 2017 Chardonnay True Course comes 33% from the Rued vineyard, 33% from the Ritchie vineyard and 34% from the Robert Young vineyard. It was barrel fermented and aged in 70% new French oak for 16 months with bâtonnage. It gives up tantalizing notes of pineapple upside-down cake, apricot tart, ripe Bosc pears and acacia honey with hints of orange blossom, candied ginger and marzipan. Medium-bodied, the palate possesses bags of grace, featuring fragrant floral and spicy notes with a racy line and long, almond-tinged finish. 150 cases are to be made.

The flagship Chardonnay is the 2017 Chardonnay True Course, and it's close to one-third each of Rued, Ritchie, and Sebastopol vineyards that spent 16 months in 70% new French oak. A rich, Meursault like notes of caramelized orchard and citrus fruits, toasted hazelnut, brioche, and honeycomb gives way to a beautifully textured, full-bodied, powerful Chardonnay that has terrific purity and elegance, as well as length. It's a thrilling Chardonnay that continues to open up and gain freshness with time in the glass, and it should continue drinking beautifully for upwards of a decade.
