Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2015 Syrah Il Padrino Bien Nacido Vineyard has a wonderfully complex nose of crème de cassis, preserved plums, bacon fat and mocha with nuances of lavender, sautéed herbs, cracked black pepper, aniseed and red roses. The bold, muscular, full-bodied palate is jam-packed with black fruit preserves and spicy layers, supported by a firm backbone of ripe tannins and well-integrated freshness, finishing with incredible persistence.

Not yet bottled yet tasted as a final blend, the 2015 Syrah Il Padrino is another killer wine from this estate that will flirt with (or achieve) perfection. Coming 100% from the Bien Nacido vineyard in Santa Maria, it was fermented in stainless steel and spent 20 months in 80% new French oak. Black fruits, bacon fat, tapenade and smoke all flow to a concentrated, incredibly seamless, silky Syrah that has no hard edges, fine, elegant tannin and a great, great finish. It's up with the finest examples of this cuvée to date. Readers should check out the Santa Barbara County: The Classic 2014s and Variable 2015s to read the reviews on Latos Pinot Noir and Chardonnays.
