Medium ruby, the 2019 Pinot Noir Estate Vineyard has alluring, broody scents of black cherries, licorice, mushrooms and lavender, with loads of spicy accents in the undercurrent. The medium-bodied palate is silky and fresh, its layered fruits still coiled at this stage, and it has a long, spicy finish. Give it another 2-3 years in bottle to unfold.

Moving to the Pinot Noirs, the 2019 Pinot Noir DuMOL Estate Vineyard reveals a deep ruby hue to go with classic notes of ripe black cherries, sappy underbrush, sassafras, and spring flowers. Straight-up gorgeous on the palate as well, it's medium to full-bodied and has a solid spine of acidity, wonderful depth of fruit, and a great, great finish. It has plenty of up-front appeal yet should cruise for a decade in cold cellars, if not longer.

The 2019 Pinot Noir DuMOL Estate Vineyard is a serious Russian River Pinot that balances fruit intensity with structure. Readers should be prepared to cellar the 2019 for at least a few years, as the tannins are pretty imposing at this stage. Blue/purplish fruit, crushed rocks, lavender and licorice build as this decidedly brooding Pinot shows off its considerable brawn.
