Deep, vivid red. Sexy aromas of wild strawberry, raspberry, incense and potpourri expand with air and pick up a note of black cardamom. Deeply concentrated but fresh, offering lively red berry flavors and a powerful note of cherry skin. Gains flesh in the glass and finishes with excellent clarity and a persistent cherry note. This is delicious now but will reward patience.

Readers looking for more immediate gratification should check out the absolutely sensational 2007 Pinot Noir Suerte Solomon Hills Vineyard. From Dijon clones 115 and 777, this wine exhibits sweet blueberry, black raspberry, and kirsch notes intermixed with a perfumed floral note. This full-bodied, opulent wine has extraordinary elegance, precision, and finesse, but is layered, beautifully textured, and lush. This is a completely different expression of Pinot Noir than the Cine Sera. It should drink well for up to a decade. Small artisinal, handmade wines produced from tiny yields are the rule of thumb for the boutique producer Paul Lato. His is a great story of a Polish immigrant falling in love with California and its vineyards, and having the guts to produce his own wines at the Santa Maria co-op.
