Bright ruby-red. Musky black- and redcurrant, licorice, mocha, coffee bean, leather, black pepper, herbs and earth on the rather wild nose. Fine-grained and pliant on entry, then distinctly savory and soil-driven in the middle palate, with the wine's peppery acidity and light bell pepper element countering its moderate fruit sweetness. Finishes with rather suave tannins and very good but not outstanding length. A suave, nicely balanced midweight with plenty of fine-grained, late-arriving tannins, a lingering savory quality and good lift. Delicious now or over the next ten years.

Good bright, dark red. High-toned aromas of crushed cassis, cocoa powder and licorice. Silky and elegant on the palate, with ripe, intense flavors of cassis, coffee bean and minerals underpinned by strong acidity. Lovely mid-palate lift here. Finishes with notes of licorice and fennel and serious tannic clout. From a blend of two blocks: mostly clone 7, which gives the wine its black fruit element and muscle, and some 337, which contributes bright acidity and more aromatic red fruits.
