Score 93/100 · Drink 2014-2024, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Dec 2014

The 2012 Mad Hatter, Dancing Hares's second wine, is delicious . It shares a similarly dark profile with the flagship Dancing Hares, but shows a bit more energy, tension and persistence. Hints of graphite, smoke and black cherries are laced into the expressive finish. Merlot plays a greater role in this blend, so perhaps that is why the Mad Hatter is just a bit more open than the Dancing Hares is today. At this stage, there is little doubt that the second wine is a bit better balanced than the flagship.

A second wine, the medium-bodied 2012 Mad Hatter, exhibits plenty of ripe plum and blackcurrant fruit, hints of mulberries and coffee beans, and background oak and earth. This luscious, savory, sensuous red wine should be consumed over the next decade.
