(blended with 9% cabernet franc and 5% each petit verdot and malbec) Medium ruby. Aromas of redcurrant, tobacco, cedar, loam and menthol, with a whiff of roast coffee. Rich but dry and savory; smooth and aromatic. Subtly complex flavors of currant, lead pencil, cedar, loam and menthol. Finishes with plenty of fine tannins that will need a bit of time to unwind.

Good full ruby. Tight aromas of cassis, licorice and minerals. Less sweet and showy today than the 2001, with a less pliant texture. A more minerally style, with less obvious early sweetness and a stronger impression of acidity but very good breadth. Finishes with youthfully tough tannins that will require patience.
