Bright, light yellow. Very pure, perfumed aromas of honeyed peach and brown spices complicated by botanical herbs and flowers. Rich and tactile in the mouth, if a bit less complex than the nose suggests. A saline umami smoothness of texture reminded me of sake. Finishes with a slightly phenolic character, a touch of oak and classic dryness.

The 2010 Chardonnay Ma Vie Carol is a promising wine, but the elements aren't quite in balance. The French oak is a bit overwhelming for the wine's mid-weight, modest structure. There is plenty to admire in the fruit, especially if the winemaking team can dial in the cooperage. Tropical fruit and flowers wrap around the finish.

Quite frankly, I expected more from Capture considering the involvement of well-known consulting oenologists Denis and May-Britt Malbec. For now Capture remains a work in progress.
