Score 90/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2014

Vivid red. Lively, sharply focused aromas of redcurrant, blood orange and minerals, with a smoky quality emerging with air. Tangy and linear on entry, then fleshier in the mid-palate, offering juicy raspberry and bitter cherry flavors and a touch of zesty spiciness. Fat-free and nervy on the finish, with echoing notes of blood orange and minerals. I'd bet on this youthful wine to age gracefully.

Freeman's 2012 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast is juicy, open and expressive. Sweet red berries, tobacco, mint and wild flowers open up in the glass, while ripe, silky tannins support the perfumed, striking finish. All the elements fall into place very nicely in the 2012. This is a gorgeous, succulent Pinot to drink over the next handful of years.
