Score 95/100 · Drink 2025-2040, Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, Sep 2022

From a vineyard north of St. Helena, near the Aida Vineyard, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Panek Vineyard has a slightly herbal, alfalfa-like nuance on the nose, accenting ripe cherries, mocha, caramel and dark chocolate. This is pretty ripe, heady stuff, full-bodied and plump but with enough tannic structure and concentration to give it a gently chewy mouthfeel and a long, substantial finish.

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Panek Vineyard is a dense, muscular wine. In 2019, the Panek has quite a bit of power and muscle, as if all the signatures of the site have been amplified to the maximum. There's quite a bit of tannin, too. Overall, this is an especially serious, somber Panek that will require more cellaring than Rivers-Marie fans are used to with this bottling.

Also dark, concentrated, and dense, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Panek Vineyard boasts a saturated purple hue to go with lots of smoky black and blue fruits, notes of scorched earth, tobacco, chocolate and lead pencil, full-bodied richness, and a round, lush, seamless style on the palate. It's another killer wine from this team that I'd be thrilled to drink any time over the coming two decades.
