Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting, Ballot-Millot's 2014 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes has a very intense and concentrated bouquet with scents of citrus fruit, lemon thyme, praline and walnut, gaining delineation all the time in the glass. The palate is very well balanced with a fine line of acidity, quite saline in the mouth with a touch of lemongrass toward the finish that fans out with energy and grace. This Meursault Charmes has great potential, but it needs about 3 or 4 years in bottle.

(from vines in au-Dessus; 20% new oak): Pale bright yellow. Ripe yellow peach, lemon, apple, clove and hazelnut on the expressive nose. Nicely concentrated flavors of spicy orchard fruits and orange zest are framed and enlivened by harmonious acidity. This supple, balanced wine conveys a restrained sweetness and very good breadth. Finishes firm and persistent, with good floral lift.
The 2014 Meursault Les Charmes 1er Cru has a fully mature bouquet with hazelnut, smoke and dried honey scents, just a little Chenin-like in style. It has good vigor considering it is almost ten years old. The palate is medium-bodied with a sapid entry, fresh and tensile, orange rind and slithers of marmalade, demonstrating fine weight towards the finish. The 2014 is pretty sapid. Excellent.
