Textbook blue fruits, sappy flowers, spice box, and foresty, herbal notes all emerge from the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain, a perfectly balanced, layered, seamless mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s deep purple-hued and has perfectly integrated fruit, tannins, and acidity, background oak, and a great finish. It’s another 20– to 25-year wine from this great estate.

Made from purchased fruit, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is slightly floral-herbal, fragrant and perfumed, with those elements delicately wrapped around a core of blueberry and cherry fruit, plus maple-syrup-like oak nuances. Full-bodied and maybe even a bit warm, it's reasonably supple but concentrated, rich and velvety. The long, mocha-tinged finish closes with a wash of softly dusty tannins.

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is a blend of two sites. Gravel, crushed rocks, menthol, pine, chocolate, black cherry and licorice open with a bit of time in the glass. Like all these 2019s, the Howell Mountain Cabernet is a bit less opulent than the wines of the past, and yet is a big, deep wine.
