The 2007 Vertigo is a blend of 75% Syrah and 25% Grenache and offers up a fruit driven bouquet of cassis, blackberries, pie crust and subtle spice notes. The palate is perfectly balanced with full body, admirable purity, a knockout, silky texture and a long finish.

(75% syrah and 25% grenache) Vivid red. High-pitched, aromatic bouquet of red and dark berries, sandalwood, rose and a deeper note of black cardamom. Very fresh and energetic, offering sweet raspberry and boysenberry flavors enlivened by tangy minerality. The red fruit element gains strength with air and carries through a very long, juicy, focused finish. "My southern Rhone wine," Jensen said.

The dense purple-colored 2007 Vertigo, a blend of 75% Syrah and 25% Grenache, exhibits the blackberry and creme de cassis characteristics of Syrah along with new saddle leather, coffee, and graphite, a certain minerality, and a long, velvety, opulent mouthfeel. It, too, should drink well for a decade. Booker Vineyard, a 40-acre vineyard planted on limestone soils just west of Highway 101, continues to strut its stuff after its impressive debut in 2005. I retasted several of the 2006s I had last year, and the ratings were slightly elevated. Tel. (805) 237-7367; Fax (805) 237-7368
