Score 16.5/20 · Drink 2023-2033, Jancis Robinson MW, Mar 2023

A blend of 79% Mourvèdre, 19% Grenache and 2% Counoise. 100% destemmed and fermented in neutral barrels. Smells of blueberries and liquorice. Powerful flavours of herbs, liquorice, black cherry, plus touches of camphor have a powerful, slightly high-octane feel to them. There's a savoury, umami-and-herb quality to the wine that lingers along with leathery tannins. (AY)

The Mourvèdre-dominated 2018 Caldera (there is 19% Grenache and 2% Counoise) has a classic, spicy, red-fruited and white pepper-scented bouquet as well as medium to full-bodied richness on the palate. It’s another impeccably made, balanced wine from this label that is going to deliver the goods over the coming 10-12 years.

The 2018 Caldera, Keplinger's Mourvèdre-based blend, is a dark, brooding wine. Black cherry, gravel, spice, menthol, licorice, cured meats and earthy notes abound. Readers will find a wine of gravitas and power.
