(45% syrah, 35% grenache, 18% mourvedre and 2% counoise) Deep ruby with a bright rim. Dark berry compote and musky floral aromas are complicated by underbrush, black cardamom and dark chocolate. Sweet black raspberry and cherry flavors are given a refreshing bitter edge by a cherry skin quality and become chewier on the back half. Packs a solid punch but also shows very good balance and an almost elegant personality. Finishes with very good juicy persistence and lingering sweetness.

A gorgeous example of an El Dorado-styled Cotes du Rhone, the 2007 Four Thirteen is a blend of Syrah, Mourvedre, Grenache, and Counoise. This aromatic red exhibits plenty of sexy, sweet plum, black currant, and cherry fruit intermixed with notions of loamy soil, pepper, and spice, a savory, round, lush mouthfeel, and a heady finish. Drink this hedonistic effort over the next several years. Tel. (510) 868-9174
