The star of Francois Cotat’s 2004 collection already from its days in barrel, his 2004 Sancerre Les Culs de Beaujeu displays an aroma combining lime and grapefruit with chicken stock and an herbal infusion. Firm but juicy on the palate, it is ultra-mineral yet also evinces strong, sweet inner-mouth floral perfume, spicy pink grapefruit, and hints of honey that persist in a long succulent, opulent-yet-dry finish. This will be worth following for at least 6-8 years. A Peter Vezan Selection (various importers), Paris; fax 011 33 1 42 55 42 93

About the producer

Cotat
Domaine Francois Cotat

Sancerre’s leading producer, François Cotat is known for his idiosyncratic, age-worthy expressions of Sauvignon Blanc on Kimmeridgian soils, not to mention his prized rosé. Sometimes denied appellation status for their atypical style, these wines are some of the most collectable in the region.
